The Barcelona International Convention Centre: CCIB

Plaça de Willy Brandt 11-14
08019 Barcelona
www.ccib.es

The CCIB is one of the most important convention centres in Southern Europe, capable of hosting events for up to 15,000 delegates in a state-of-the-art architectural space that is integrated into Barcelona’s coastal seafront. With a surface area of 100,000 m2, the site includes the Convention Centres and the “Forum Building” Auditorium, linked by an underground walkway.
Since its opening in 2004 and until 2008, the CCIB has welcomed 406 events and 548,000 delegates have passed through its facilities. It has been the stage for important national and international meetings like the Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Heads of State, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Congress, TVE’s (Spain’s state-run TV station) 50th anniversary Gala or the EuroPCR Cardiology Congress.
GL Events CCIB SL. is the convention centre’s managing company owned by the Barcelona City Hall (12%), the Gremi d’Hotels de Barcelona (8%) and the French company GL Events (80%), European leader in space management and logistics for big events. The CCIB has set up an Environmental Management Committee composed of the heads of departments that have an environmental impact (resulting of their activity) which needs to be reduced. The aim of the Committee is to anticipate, state and find a solution on environmental issues, as well as setting quantitative and qualitative objectives for the current year.
The CCIB has been awarded ISO 14001 by TÜV.
CCIB green practices have been communicated to the staff, to all CCIB suppliers and promote “eco-gestures” through an in-house promotional campaign.
GL Events has decided to reinforce and formalize its commitment towards the environment through its “Think Green” program, which now constitutes a fully structured framework for better integrating environmental concerns into all professionals of event organisation, hosting and services. It is a simple yet ambitious program that will progressively evolve so as to allow the Group to anticipate development in regulations, meet new market expectations and consolidate its position as leader in the events world.
