One of the strategic goals of ESPEN is the implementation of standards of nutritional care throughout Europe and beyond Europe. Much efforts have been put into developing guidelines for the use of parenteral and enteral nutrition, based on the best available evidence. Unfortunately, many clinical questions remain unanswered and more research is therefore needed. ESPEN has recently decided to fund scientific projects which address unanswered clinical questions. The project should be proposed by a multinational network, which ESPEN believes is key in building global awareness and intervention. Earlier this year, during the ESPEN Vienna Congress, two projects have been awarded. One of them addresses the issue of quality of life of patients receiving Home Parenteral Nutrition. Janet Baxter, on behalf of the ESPEN HAN group, presented the proposal, which can be seen in the attachment.
