WELCOME MESSAGE |
| Under the
supervision of the ESPEN Scientific and Educational Committees, we have
developed a comprehensive programme that will offer you information on the
state-of-the-art of clinical nutrition practice. Along with case
discussions, debates and specialised sessions, the Educational Programme
will have 14 sessions that will deal with different aspects of interest
for professionals working in clinical nutrition and metabolic care.
Scientific sessions will be held on a variety of issues that will cover topics of current interest for scientists in the different fields related to nutrition. Carefully selected experts will participate in 15 symposia and technical sessions. In order to avoid an overlap of topics, we have reduced the number of simultaneous activities of the Congress. For the first time, the abstract submission has been done exclusively through Internet. This new system has not decreased the number of submissions compared to past Congresses. We have received 384 communications of which 249 have been accepted. The selected abstracts were available for consultation on our website prior to the congress. All the scientific communications will be presented as posters in special sessions without any other simultaneous feature in the programme. We hope that they will provide an opportunity to all investigators to present their research efficiently and that the poster sessions will be more informative than ever. A Cyber Cafe will be available to all attendants. We are confident that it will be as successful as last year during the Stockholm Congress. We are grateful for the enthusiastic collaboration of many pharmaceutical companies. They have developed a very interesting technical exhibition that will display the latest therapeutic tools available in the field of clinical nutrition and metabolic care. Don’t miss this opportunity of finding first-hand information on the newest products and techniques! And, last but not least, we wish you an enjoyable stay in Madrid. We have organised an extensive social programme including the visit of the city and nearby tourist attractions. This will be a splendid opportunity to meet and interchange with colleagues and friends. The Congress opens on Saturday, September 9 with a welcome reception at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. On Tuesday, September 12, a Gala Party is planned in the beautiful Castillo de Viñuelas: we invite you to a gastronomic trip around the different regions of Spain with their traditional and worldly renowned food specialties and traditions. We thank you for your presence in this Congress: with your contributions to its scientific and friendly atmosphere, it will certainly be an unforgettable event! Miguel León-Sanz |
